We talked about student and teacher relationships this week in class and the rules that apply between the two.  What should be allowed between a student and teacher and how should we handle situations that are not appropriate.  

When I was in the 6th grade, I had a science teacher who would say inappropriate jokes to girls all the time.  We were so young that we had no idea what the jokes meant and as I got older I realized what he had been saying and it was obviously too late to do something about it.

I want girls and boys to know what to do in a situation like this and be able to handle it rather than let it sit.  Parents also need to be aware this and make sure their kids understand the difference.     

There are some disturbing people out in the world and we need to be understanding of how to go about the right way to stop the teachers from acting badly towards the students as well as the students saying inappropriate things to their teachers.

Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

Why can't we all just get along? Because we are all different and the movie "Why Did I Get Married" showed just how different couples can be and how they have their problems just like we do in our everyday lives. I felt that the lack of communication in the couples was the main reason each spouse knew nothing of the other! Several couples mentioned that they had no idea how the other one felt and so on and so on...

Marcus and Angela were the most dysfunctional relationship maybe in the world and could not trust each other if their lives depended on it. Gavin and Patty keep their feelings bottled so nobody ever knew what was going on and always thought they were happy. Sheila and Mike were terrible because of the way Mike talked to her and the rude things he would say about her weight. That couple made me want to cry during the movie! Last, Terry and his wife were the perfect couple with a small twist that turned their marriage into a jealousy issue which lead to Terry moving out!

I hope when I'm in my 40's I am not sitting around with my husband and wondering why I got married. But hey, it's a good question!

So this week we talked about different genders and how they are "suppose" to behave. We discussed so many different situations and I laughed, cried, threw up, and had so many emotions I didn't even know how to feel about half the conversations with all the gay/straight brothers, girls acting like boys, boys acting like girls, parents allowing their kids to play the opposite gender roles and more. I think we all need to take a lesson out of the talk the other day and stay clear of allowing our children to grow up and be the opposite of what they were born. I am a strong believer in God choosing who we are and us not changing that. It states in the Bible that God is against this and if he wanted us to be the opposite gender, then that is what we would have come out into the world as.

Some of you might have seen this on TV. My roommates and I were flipping around on TV the other day and came across this show. It is about men who have become women and go to whomever writes in that needs help with looking beautiful. These men go around in an ambulance and tell women how beautiful they are and they "transform" them. It was a little disturbing and weird, but maybe I was being too critical.

I hope everyone's week was good!

This week we discussed intercultural relationships. I brought up, in class, how my trip in London went and ML helped me with sharing with the class our thoughts and our look on European culture. For those who have not had a chance to be there for more than a week to visit, really do not understand how the British society works. I had visited, but never lived. Living there and knowing the customs is an eye opening experience and I felt at home within a matter of days. Intercultural language is defined as " communication between two people of different cultures," as stated by Richmond, McCroskey, and Hickson in Nonverbal Behavior. We all have our set norms and expect whomever that comes into our country to abide by those norms. I had to switch how I lived to do what is socially accepted in London, France, and Scotland. It was hard, but I feel that to respect one's culture, you must choose to obey and follow their set of social norms.

When people say that their culture or country is better than the next person's... it makes me think of how high their ignorance level is. Obviously, they have only been in their country and have not had the chance to leave and try others cultures out. The world is beautiful and a shame to waste away time that could be spend traveling and learning more.

Polychronic

Polychronic is described as one not being on time. This describes me perfectly. I started thinking about why I am always late to everything and did not have any reason others that I was doing something else or I lost track of time. So when I really started to think about it, it because of my mother. My mother is ALWAYS late. I used to have to wait hours after school because she was doing something else or forgot. In the book Nonverbal Behavior on page 186, it says this is a scheduling of activities at one time. I could not agree more. I map out my day according to hours and write it all out in my planner and then never look at my planner again until I want to write something down. Why do we do this?

The male to male relationship is a hard one to discuss because I feel that many people have different views on what is appropriate. I personally do not want to see anyone touchy feely, much less a man on man relationship. I am religious and therefore I follow God's word and think that intimate relationships are between a man and a women. I have never gone against gay men, but I do not feel that it is right. People have certain norms and I'm not sure about all of you, but I feel that gay men almost try to push the limits and show people just how gay they are. It just does not make sense that two people want everyone to look at them THAT much! So tell me your thoughts on this situation. In no way and I trying to disrespect anybody and would never mean to hurt anyone's feelings, I just want the PDA to be toned down.

Does Music Send the Same Message to Everyone?

I have noticed that in a rap song, it offends more older people than younger. In a classical song, younger students tend to be less appreciative. In true hip hop songs, people don't understand the meaning of what the artist is trying to tell them. So my question is... Does music send the same message to everyone or do we block out what we want and take in what we feel is good to us? I have found that as I grow older, I start to really listen to music and the message it is sending to me, as well as others. Sometimes I feel like we try so hard to fit in by listening to the "right" music and try to conform that we rarely know what the song is even about. Especially rap songs these days. I will catch myself signing the words and I don't even know what they're talking about! So you tell me. Do we all get the same message from music or decide what we can hear? (like a rap song that talks about terrible things but we just "don't hear that part")

I know this is in another language, but after seeing the video, during class, about the young girls dancing, i wanted to see other young ladies that were forced into doing other provocative dances. The way the little girl in the pink was moving like an adult dancer had to have practiced those moves for some time. A young girl's body cannot move that way on its on and the parents of these children need to learn what is appropriate and what is too far. As citizens, we look at our society today and think how bad it has become. Well... I think we have our answer.

Today, I sat at the movie theater and watched couples walk past me to go see their show. I noticed the nonverbal signs of all of them. I took into account that some held hands, some walked arm in arm, some didn't touch at all, and some couldn't get enough of each other. Interesting!
